A Clump Of Dusky Bronze Plums (SOLD)

#126.

Another piece made out of Marimekko textile!

The Lumimarja in another colourway! Dusky pink and white on a bronze-y brown.

It was stacked right under the green piece I used for #124 and again, it's so Spring-like with all the happy fruits that I had to use it. I love Spring! And Summer!

It is a gorgeous heavyweight 100% cotton sateen with a beautiful gloss finish. Usher Spring in with it!

A Clump Of Blue-Rinsed Ivory (SOLD)

#125.

The last two lace-wrapped pieces (#27 and #54) that I made sold pretty fast so here's another.

This time, I wrapped some baby blue vintage lace I bought from an old lady at a market in Canberra. It's a shame that the lace is made from a synthetic material (the first time that I've used a non-natural fabric for the New Jewels, I believe!) but it's pretty hard to find cotton ones that are coloured these days and in the right width for this purpose.

I hope its prettiness will make up for it! And don't you worry! It's not rough on your skin. I wouldn't have used it otherwise.

For Sale: A Clump Of Green Garnet Plums

#124.

Back to using my favourite of all textiles! Those made by Marimekko!

I've used this Lumimarja print by designer Erja Hirvi before for #55 but in silver.

It is such a beautiful piece of fabric. In heavyweight 100% cotton sateen with a glossy finish.

Spring is nearly here so I thought I'd bust the green one out! I hope you'll love its crispy freshness too!

For Sale: A Clump Of Canary-Yellow Gold

#123.

Finding a use for yet another lovely piece of fabric that Phoebe has handed down to me. The way that she makes her jewelIery, she often is left with off-cuts. Pieces that are too small for her to use but just right for me. I like that we're not letting good things go to waste!

And now, if you decide to take this happy yellow piece home with you, you'll be continuing with the chain!

For Sale: A Clump Of Ruby Shards

#122.

There was still quite a bit of remnant, this red-and-white fabric designed by Erika Pekkari in 2006(!) for Ikea, left over from making Ms Meeps' piece so I thought I should share some "ruby" love.

_________________________________________________________

Left - #122
Right - The Clump component of The Stack in #121

Would like to take this opportunity to reiterate the fact that no two pieces of The Empress Dowager's New Jewels will ever look same.

The two pieces pictured were cut from the same length of fabric but look how different they are. I don't think I'll be able to make them identical, as hard as I try. I am not a machine.

A Stack Of Ruby Shards

#121. For my pal Ms Meeps.

It's her wage for helping me out at the stall at A Little Bazaar this Saturday. Yes, The Empress Dowager's New Jewels are going to the market again! Woo! Will put details up once I'm done with the cataloguing of new pieces!

Ms Meeps likes her red and she looks great in it so I thought her first piece of The Empress Dowager's New Jewels should be in that colour.

The "gems" on the three components of The Stack are cut from yet another piece of remnant handed down to me by Phoebe.

The Strand...

The Dewdrops...

And The Clump.

The swirly madness of the print makes for a mad-looking piece of New Jewels! Haha. I love it. And so does Ms Meeps! Yay!

Another reason I picked red for her was because she loves wearing stripes as much as I do. And red does look great on stripey things! Tee hee hee.

A Stack Of Amethyst Grapes (SOLD)

#120. Can you tell that The Stack is my new favourite "setting" for the New Jewels? Tee hee hee.

I don't know why it took me so long to make some for the shop when all along, I've been wearing my own collection of The Empress New Jewels all piled up and stacked high.

The "gems" on this Stack of "amethyst" in graduated shades were cut from this piece of remnant given to me by my pal Phoebe. She makes "jewellery" from fabric too and this purple piece is one of many that she so generously sent me when she was clearing out her previous house to move to Melbourne.

The "gems" on The Strand are of the lightest purple...

The medium purple on The Dewdrops...

And the deepest one I saved for The Clump.

And this is only one of the many ways that you can wear this Stack of Amethyst Grapes! You can swap them around. Wear each piece on their own. Wear them long or short.

Even on the ruched side! The Stack is a fun fun thing to own!

But a similar piece is still available here.

A Clump of Spotted Tourmaline (Sold!)

#119.

If you've not seen a piece of the mad mad Saralisa fabric by Cilla Ramnek, you would not believe that the "gems" for this Clump were cut from the same piece of cloth as #118.

Well, it's true! I usually photograph the fabric before I cut into it but I forgot this one time! Bah. You'll just have to take my word for it.

Lately, I've been into hot pink. I surprised myself because I've never been much of a pink girl. Hope you will like this slightly dotty pink piece as much as I do!

For Sale: A Stack Of Scintillating Sapphire

#118.

I am loving The Stack setting! So big! So bold! So drama-mama! So here's another one!

The scintillating blue "gems" in this piece were cut from this mad mad piece of Saralisa by textile designer Cilla Ramnek.

Note how the colour and print on each component of the stack is different...

On The Strand - bright blue with stripes and cute scallop "edges"...

On The Dewdrops - the same stripes and scallop details on a darker shade of blue...

On The Clump - back to the bright blue on The Strand but with these happy bubbles!

And you put them all three together to make The Stack! Or you can wear them each separately. Wear them long or wear them short. On the flat side or on the ruched side. So many options!

A Clump Of Rolling Onyx Waves (SOLD!)

#117. Three black pieces in a row? Haha. I don't own or wear anything black myself (doesn't agree with my colouring) but loads of people do. And they love it! The black pieces of The Empress Dowager's New Jewels always get sold first so I thought what's the harm of making one more.

From another piece of textile designed by Cilla Ramnek from her Saralisa series for Ikea.
